　　Like any other English learner, I met a lot of difficulties in learningEnglish. First, I found it difficult to understand what I read because mostEnglish words have more than one meaning. Besides, I found it difficult to writein idiomatic English or put Chinese into idiomatic English. Finally, I couldn'texpress in English orally because I had no opportunity to communicate withnative English speakers. Although I often read aloud, this didn't prove to be aneffective way to improve my spoken English. But I didn't lose heart in removingthese obstacles. I tackled English vocabulary in two ways. First,I tried tounderstand and memorize the specific meaning of a word that appears in thecontext. Second, I enlarge my vocabulary by learning the dictionary by heart. Toovercome Chinese English, I tried to think in English directly. Although I stillhad no opportunity to communicate with native speakers, I improved spokenEnglish by listening to the English broadcast and writing English expedient turned out to be effhctive.
